We are very fortunate in the Niagara Peninsula to have a subsidized athletic mouth guard program in place.

The orthodontic office of Dr. John Doucet fabricates the mouth guards for a minimal cost to cover the materials used. The general dentists in the area have agreed to take impressions of your teeth from which the guards are made. With our combined efforts your child can have a sports guard custom made to fit and protect their teeth. The cost is $15.00 and you can pick out the colour. Growing children should replace their sports guard on an annual basis because their jaws and teeth are growing. This is usually up until the age of 15 -16. After that not much changes. If you have braces there are special sports guards for you too.

To properly care for your sports guard you should always clean it before and after each use with a tooth brush, tooth paste and cool water. Never use hot water or your guard could lose its shape. When it is not in your mouth it should be in its case.

These are way better than the blocks that you put in hot water and bite into. So take advantage of a great program and get a custom sports guard.
