    POST EXTRACTION ADVICE HOME

You have just completed a root canal and here are a few things to expect:

It is normal to have moderate discomfort for the first two to three days following a root canal appointment. Gradually your discomfort will lessen and stop. The appropriate pain medication and/or antibiotic will be prescribed. It is very important that you take any medications exactly as they were prescribed as to the proper amount at the proper time for the proper duration. If you do not, the effectiveness of the medications will be diminished. If you have had any bad reactions with medications in the past or you develop a rash, become itchy or develop shortness of breath, etc., please let us know so that we may advise you of an alternate medication and what to do about your reaction. If you develop any swelling, please call us; we may need to change your antibiotic or prescribe one for you.

Please eat softer foods for the first few days, gradually changing back to your normal diet as you feel more comfortable.

If you have any questions, please call us!

It is recommended for the long term life and function of the tooth that has had the root canal, that a crown be placed over it for strength.
