    CHIPPED TEETH ADVICE HOME

Repairing a chipped tooth may be as simple a procedure as placing a filling to restore the tooth, provided the nerve of the tooth is not infected.

If infection is present in the nerve of the tooth, it may be necessary to remove the infected nerve by performing a root canal and placing a crown to restore the tooth. If the nerve has not been infected but a large portion of the tooth has been lost, a root canal may still be needed along with a post to anchor the filling material placed to restore the chipped tooth. Ideally, a crown should be placed to protect the weakened tooth structure. A chipped tooth should be looked after as soon as possible: Have it repaired if possible, but if the tooth is broken beyond predictable repair, it may be necessary to have the tooth removed and replaced with an implant, bridge or denture.
